Fitna, the video battle in York

1 03 2012

Yesterday (Feb. 29, 2012), I gave a talk at the Department of Sociology of York University, about our research about the YouTube videos that were uploaded in respons to the anti-Islam film Fitna. Covered the whole project, from the genres and arguments in the videos, to the motives and networks of the posters. Interesting discussion afterwards, among other things about the question how all these YouTube demonstrations/performances of religious and political identities were articulated with public knowledge, or ignorance if you will.
