Discussing populism with The Policy Network

23 11 2012

The Policy Network and the Wiardi Beckman Stichting (a UK and Dutch centre left think-thank) held a small seminar about populism, extremism and the mainstream yesterday. A small group of researchers and activists from various European countries discussed the various faces of populism, the voters for populist parties and inspiring ‘on-the-grounds’ initiatives to foster social cohesion instead of extremism. I was honoured with an invitation to chair one of the sessions, and enjoyed hearing all the research and grass roots activities. Especially impressed with the Hope not Hate Campaign in the UK. Unresolved question of the day: why do so few women ‘do’ populism?
