Presenting IMPRINTS to Dutch civil servants

13 12 2013

On December 12 I presented IMPRINTS to about 80 Dutch civil servants who work on identification and authentication matters, among others on the upcoming E-ID system for interactions between government and citizens. I focused on the cultural and emotional meanings of identity management, and explained how acts of identification can be seen as involving  a submission to state or corporate power, a transaction or an expression of the self. The notion of IM as being most pleasurable for citizens if it allows for expressiveness was met with interest and intrigue, and is evidently something to elaborate. I feel, that expressiveness in IM is also potentially capable to bridge the gap between identity and identification, but watch this space for further thoughts on this. I though, also, that I would take the opportunity to ‘watch the watchers’, and take a picture of my audience:
